" What do you actually see? Is your view clouded by your prejudice or opinion, circumstances, emotions or some other prevailing things taking up space within your being? Often times we get caught up in the connection and the chase and forget the reality.

Most often it’s all about us. We want it all. Unfortunately the “all” we have in our minds’ eye and the chase of it flounders in its reality. The days of absolutes, black and whites have given way to all whites let alone gray.

Somewhere in this race and exhaustive pursuit of money, has to be an accounting of reality. What can take us there and what helps keep us there? Beautiful paintings that speak volumes to the emotions of the soul can make us stop and ponder the reality of truth, life, toil, and meaning. In the midst of all that we live in an over-saturated world of images, bombarding our lives every minute of the day. Just a few decades ago, paintings conveyed news, travel, philosophy, religion, prominence, record keeping and more. Now they are often regulated to what pillow color they match. Home decorating and home decor far outweighs all others as one lives in a society of "what others think", "celebrity worship" and "making choices by committee".

Real paintings, created and labored over by real artists with real messages, and real truth, are orchestrated by a struggle of talent and love to produce works that nothing in the image field can match. The days of the renaissance or impressionists or other periods may be over but the fervor, enthusiasm and the effort made today with the tools and knowledge available is unmatched.

All we need is more individuals with a change in point of view, a slowing down, and a real engaging of the works that are before us. "

"People often view a painting by taking a "look" at a work. That look may be described by some as, "that’s nice what’s next?" Too often it’s a, "let the people around me see how intellectual I am while I pose in front of this piece. " Many people don’t understand that in its base form it’s a series of dance-like steps that lead to initial enjoyment. If you love paintings, there’s an introduction; sort of like a let me look you over and see if there is an initial connection. You know, you looked intriguing from across the room and something went off in my head. You next slip and glide across to it feeling the view as much as possible. You get into a certain range; you kind of break down and wait for everything to catch up taking in all that it’s about. If you were to ask yourself at this point you’d know that the connection has already been made. A few more steps and you find yourself staring into the paintings eyes and of course the painting is staring back.

"While "Painters" may not be zealots, members of a fanatical group, the real ones have zeal. Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary defines "zeal" as "eagerness and ardent interest in pursuit of something". Think about history and how many were maligned, criticized, laughed at, and put down. Today, everyone is an artist and more than that everyone’s a critic. "Feelings", "Me-ism", and "Self" and a world of non truth takes self expression to the height of hypocrisy. People who put paint on canvas are artists.

One of the things you’ll find is that real artists have a fever for their work and an unquenchable thirst to do more and do it better. They love their work, life and people. In a throw away, bi-stander world where everyone is a critic, they are the ones who know the real game is in the trying.

And for people who love paintings, they get to acquire works that speak to their souls, that encourage their lives daily, and that become priceless treasures for a lifetime."

"Passion as stated in the dictionary is "any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling". Often, Hollywood would believe it's all about sex. But, people who have a passion for something usually have not only a desire for it but an overcoming forceful drive to be involved with it. This may or may not be true in relationships and marriage today as the next best thing is just around the block and we no longer subscribe to our core beliefs as much as our core feeling of the day.

Passion in painting transcends many of these definitions because it is not only a compelling desire but an involvement which is life itself. This probably can be said for many of the passions that have been laid out before us as man strives to complete himself without the understanding of true fulfillment.

All that said, virtually all great paintings are completed as a result of their creator's passion. You can see it. You can feel it. You love it and once you understand it you don't want to live without it, a painting you desire to acquire.

One last comment, isn't it interesting how we can see the creator's passion and we can't see the Creator's passion?"

“You remember! Think, I’m sure you will remember. Most often remembering is not triggered by thinking. It’s prompted by visual images. Alzheimer’s treatment is moving in recent years to incorporate art into a patient’s routine. There is the art in which hands and eyes are engaged in activities and the art in which patients are taken to museums or shown pictures or paintings. The visual recognition of some item prompts the memories. Studies are saying that while it’s not a cure it is certainly a relief period that allows true comfort.

The other day a comment came that I saw asking if art were dead in America. I believe art is very much alive. What I question is the appreciation for it. Great art stirs the emotions and fills the heart. It creates travel and memories and feelings that transcend time. When a painting hits you it buckles your knees and stirs you to possess it as it possesses you. What value do we place on this? Is some bargain price of some piece that matches the pillow worth anything? Absolutely not! Remember this: Great paintings, paintings you engage with, that grow on you, that serve up memories daily, that build a love relationship with you, they are “priceless”!”

“As I stand here and ponder before this beautiful work.

I recall so many wonderful times and often being a jerk.

I remember the beach, the kids and the joys of everyday.

And now because of the world it’s been taken all away.

Paintings, beautiful paintings, speaking loud and so bold,
